A brief introduction to the pre-primary education sector

In the 2020-2021 academic year, there are 1454 (public 948, private 506) kindergartens operating in Mongolia. Nationally, 247,040 children in 8,499 groups are included in preschool education sector.

At the national level, the total number of preschool education groups is 29.1. Kindergarten basic training group enrolment is 29.2. The group enrolment in public kindergartens is 30.8 and in private kindergartens it is 21.7.

229, 899 or 93.1% of children enrolled in pre-school education are enrolled in basic kindergarten training and 17,141 or 6.9% in alternative education. Of the children enrolled in alternative education, 2,694 receive pre-school education in various shift groups, 11,552 in nomadic groups, and 2,895 in pre-school education through mobile teacher services.

Out of overall number of children, 85.7 % are enrolled in public and 14.3% private kindergartens.

31, 860 herder children, 1156 children with disabilities, 3096 those who receive care and 46 orphans are enrolled in pre-school education.

There are 30,668 teachers and staff in the preschool education sector, of which 8,827 or 28.8% are full-time teachers.

Of the total employees, 14,054 or 45.8 percent work in urban areas and 16,614 or 54.2 percent in rural areas and 84.4 percent of employees work in state-owned enterprises and 15.5 percent in private organizations.

Of the total number of full-time teachers, 2,494 or 28.3 percent have professional degrees, of which 6 are consultants, 563 are leading teachers, and 1,925 are teachers with training methods.
